Fred Dagg (above and below)
The man behind the iconic Fred Dagg persona on television was a beloved Kiwi public character. His cultural rural gumboots depiction and comments like "Get in behind" and others, made him one of my favourite television comics. The role of the black singleted satirist came easy to him, he once said. Sadly for reasons best known to himself and the NZ industry he moved permanently to Australia and became an Aussie fan as well. He seldom came back to NZ - he reportedly had a fear of flying. He has died aged 68 years. RIP John Clark.
